This month, Fit4Kids welcomed the newest member of the team – Development Director, Leigh Busby! As Development Director, Leigh will help spread the word and gain support for Fit4Kids programs throughout the Richmond region. We asked Leigh to answer a couple of questions so that you can get to know her even better!
Why did you choose to work with Fit4Kids?
As a kid, I was fortunate to have lots of great role models in my life that encouraged physical activity and taught me the importance of being healthy. Additionally, I know how important nutritional wellness and fitness is to long term health and self-esteem. I am excited about the opportunity to combine my professional experience with a focus that is so important to me, and to support the improvement of health in our community in a sustainable way. I’m hoping to learn more about the impact Fit4Kids has on kids, schools, and families, and to be able to share that message to others to gain meaningful support for Fit4Kids programs, and to engage the community to create a happier and healthier RVA!
What’s your favorite way to stay active?
I love being outside so any activity that gets my heart rate up while enjoying the sunshine is at the top of my list, including hiking, tennis, disc golf, and running.
What’s your favorite thing to eat for breakfast/lunch/dinner?
I have always believed that breakfast is the most important meal of the day so I try to start the day with a great meal! A favorite breakfast of mine is an egg scramble that includes lots of veggies and maybe some black beans and cheese with a coffee on the side. I love seafood so a favorite lunch would be a salmon sandwich or fish over a salad. Finally, for dinner, bring on the pasta!
Mountain or beach vacation?
I love the water, but I’m more of a mountain fan. If there is a lake near the mountains, then I get the best of both! As I previously shared, I love being outside so it doesn’t get much better than taking a hike in the mountains on a beautiful day with family or friends. The mountain scenery also has a great calming effect so I can let go of any stress.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I’ve recently become a mother so I want to grow up to be the best mom possible to my little boy. I also love my adopted home of Richmond so I want to have a positive impact on my community while challenging myself professionally. I hope that over the next 10 years I’ll be able to find a balance that allows me to use my expertise in a meaningful and interesting way while having time to focus on my family, spend time with friends, enjoy good music, and sit back with a delicious RVA brew.
