This Summer sure was fun! We had an incredible time at our 2nd Annual Game On, Girl! Summer Summit at the enchanting University of Richmond July 30 – August 3. Be sure to check out the full Summer Summit recap and photos on our blog!
BUT, we’re ready to get back into our routines, and school-based programs!
This Fall we are bringing our Game On, Girl! after-school program to six middle schools in the Greater Richmond region. Game On, Girl! after-school meets twice a week for 10 weeks teaching middle school girls the fundamental skills behind a variety of sports and physical activities, leadership development, how to opt active, and make the healthiest choice. Some topics we’ll cover this fall are commitment, creating change in your community, stress management, standing up to peer pressure, positive self-talk, how to be active where you are, flag football, lacrosse, wiffleball, volleyball, and more! After-school programs will begin late September/early October through our partners NextUp RVA, CIS of Chesterfield, and Higher Achievement.
Game On, Girl! programs aren’t just for middle schoolers! Our Girls with Goals Leadership Academy is a year-long fellowship for 20 high school girls designed to empower girls to be peer leaders in their schools and communities through education, innovation, and advocacy. With an emphasis on physical activity, this fellowship will challenge girls to flex their leadership muscles!
During the 2018-19 school year, girls will have the opportunity to:
— Meet with active girls from around the Richmond region
— Learn advocacy skills to promote physical activity for girls at your high school
— Be mentored by collegiate female athletes and professional women
— Empower middle school girls to be physically active through the Game On, Girl! middle school program
— Initiate a service project in the community
— Cultivate confidence, strength, and courage
Fellows must be available to meet on select Saturday mornings, September 2018 – July 2019. 9th – 12th grade girls are encouraged to apply. Girls with Goals sanctioned events will count as community service hours, required by many area high schools.
Join us for our 2018-19 Girls with Goals Leadership Academy Information and Recruitment Social on Sat. September 29th, 9-11am!
