The Erby 5, in their signature red, joined us at the Broad Rock Branch of the Richmond Public Library.

Fourteen months into a global pandemic, we were very excited to celebrate Bike to School Week with the Lit Limo, for a socially distant, but in-person event. With 39 stops, the Lit Limo once again came through as the best resource for getting into the most communities in the city. Although city-wide Bike Month activities were postponed until Fall 2021, we knew we needed some face-time with our students, to prepare for in-person learning for some this summer, and district-wide in the fall. We distributed bike safety activity books and crayons, while we encouraged students to choose active transportation, and reminded them how to stay safe while doing so. As a result, we were able to reach hundreds of students!

As always, Ms. Judy Deichman and her team of Library Media Services Specialists were lovely hosts. Their carefully planned routes wonderfully highlighted the importance of active transportation, as they’re accessible for families to arrive by foot and bike, accommodating a large population of our students. Though we’ll be back to in-person learning, and celebrations of Walk/Bike to School Day in the fall, we’re excited to have had the opportunities to grow our relationship with the Lit Limo team, and look forward to finding fun ways to partner again the future!
