After the dust from the beginning of the year hustle has settled, it’s time for our gardens to get growing! We are picking the last of the tomato, okra, and other summer garden treats and planting the first carrot seeds to munch on later in the season. With so much growing going on in the garden, there is lots to taste and see and do in our Learning Gardens!

What’s Cooking: Pizza Salad

Ready to dig in for a sample!

A simple recipe with all the flavors of a fresh slice of pizza, but made with everything growing in the garden. You will need:

  • two large tomatoes from the garden
  • one handful of fresh basil leaves
  • 1-2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ground pepper (less than 1/4 teaspoon)
  • Optional- crushed red pepper flakes

Cut tomatoes into slices or chunks and slice basil into skinny strips. Toss everything together and serve. During the 2016-2017 school year we served over 20,000 samples in our Anthem learning gardens and can’t wait to serve even more this year!
