Who Run the World?! Girls. GIRLS!

Team ON winning the Game Ball on the last day of the Game On, Girl! Summer Summit!

2017 is the Year of Girl Power Programs here at Fit4Kids! In the spring we launched our newest program Game On, Girl! at 4 middle schools. This fall we are expanding to 6 middle schools: Falling Creek, Salem Church, and Elizabeth Davis in Chesterfield County, and Lucille Brown, Boushall, and Henderson in Richmond City through NextUp RVA.

Game On, Girl! Summer Summit

We had a blast at our first annual Game On, Girl! Summer Summit July! 52 middle and high school girls from the Richmond region participated in a 3-day summit at the beautiful University of Richmond campus.

We reached new heights at the Challenge Discovery ropes course; found the perfect blend of fruits and veggies during our smoothie making competition; sweated it out with Spin, Barre, and HITT group exercise classes; played basketball and soccer with some fierce lady Spiders; learned a lot about perseverance, confidence, and the power of sports from our wonderfully inspiring leadership panelists; kayaked the James River; shed some light on the issues surrounding healthy food choices; kicked butt in flag football; and most importantly, 100% of girls committed to staying active!!

Check out some of our favorite memories below!

Loving Spin at the Weinstein Center!

“I’m most proud of kayaking because I was really scared because I thought I was going to float away, but I got in the boat and everyone was so encouraging of me and I did it and I was proud of myself.” – Lexi, age 14

Girls with Goals Leadership Academy

Girls with Goals Leadership Academy is the ‘big sister’ program to Game On, Girl! middle school. Girls with Goals is a yearlong fellowship designed to empower 20 high school girls to be peer-leaders in their schools and communities through education, innovation, and advocacy. Fellows will have the opportunity to learn advocacy skills to promote physical activity for girls in their high schools, empower middle school girls to be physically active through Game On, Girl! middle school programs, initiate a service project in their community, be mentored by collegiate athletes and professional women, and cultivate confidence, strength, and courage!

We had our first Girls with Goals Summer Recruitment Social in August, where we talked a lot about ‘the confidence gap’ and why creating more opportunities for girls is so important! This past weekend held our first official meeting where fellows learned all about guest coaching at Game On, Girl! and how to turn ideas into action at their high schools.

If you know any high school girls with goals, encourage them to apply today! Email completed packets to Kayla-Brooke Dransfield at kayla@grfit4kids.org.
