During a recent Learning Garden lesson at Southampton Elementary, students were exploring different types of insects. Armed with magnifying glasses, they eagerly searched the garden for bugs — spotting bees, beetles, and then something extra special: a praying mantis!

Farmer Aimee gently picked up the mantis and gathered the students around. Together, they observed its body parts up close, connecting what they saw to the song they had sung at the start of the lesson — to the tune of “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes”:
🎵 “Head, thorax, abdomen, six legs, and exoskeleton!” 🎵
The students were captivated — a perfect example of how hands-on garden learning brings science to life!
