Influencing Policy

Through years of direct service programming in schools, Fit4Kids has built credibility, relationships, and experience to address key policy issues. By tackling policy, the organization can advocate for change that impacts tens of thousands of children.

Relationships and collaboration are the backbone of effective policy work. Caregivers are the experts on their students and it is essential to amplify and center their voices to create and influence policy.

Past successes include:

  • Ensuring daily, active recess in a local school division
  • Improving the quality of school breakfasts by replacing sugary items with savory options
  • Advocating for the passage of a new Wellness and Hydration policy in Richmond
  • SipSmarter, a campaign to promote drinking water across all middle schools in Richmond

Local advocates support this work by shaping our policy agenda, telling their stories to policymakers, and more.
